Virginia Lee Lair, age 79, of Rio, Illinois passed away at 3:34 A.M. Monday, October 18, 2021 at the OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois.
Virginia was born September 16, 1942 in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of Leland and Alice (Simmons) Guldenzopf. She married Jerry Lair on August 25, 1961 in Woodhull, Illinois.
She was a member of the Rio Presbyterian Church and participated in multiple women’s Bible studies. Virginia enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting. She was famous in the Rio area for her knitted prayer shawls.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Lair of Rio; children, Lorie (and Michael) Larsen of Galesburg, Tim (and Jennifer) Lair of Galesburg, Jeff (and Tracy) Lair of Galesburg; grandchildren, Ryan (and Tiffany) Lair, Tyler Lair, Brittany (and Seth) Johnson, Emily (and Dustin) Tucker, Ellen Larsen; great-grandchildren, Alister Johnson, Isabelle Johnson, Emmett Lair, Garrett Lair, Drake Lair; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Leland and Alice Guldenzopf; sister, Phyllis Prince; and brother, Richard Guldenzopf.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 22, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the Rio Presbyterian Church. Rev. Maura McGrath Nagle will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be left to the Rio Presbyterian Church.  Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha, Illinois is handling the arrangements.
